Had a colorful parrot in today that seemed to have an endless supply of tricks up its feathers! One moment, it was squawking a tune, and the next, it somehow managed to unlock its cage — no idea how it did that! Just a reminder that sometimes our patients can be the best little comedians and keep us on our toes.
I totally get that! I’ve found that having a sturdy climbing tree in the enclosure really helps redirect their energy. It keeps them off my head and makes the enrichment sessions a little less chaotic.
It’s wild how clever they can be! Had a similar experience with a cockatoo who figured out how to pop the latch on its cage. , now I double-check everything! Usually, I go for heavier locks.
Parrots really can be little escape artists! I once had a macaw that figured out how to open the latch with its beak. Now I use rubber bands on the latch for extra security, but I still keep a close eye on them, just in case! @jcooper76, have you tried any unconventional locks?
